Phillips predicts Tottenham phonecall to Zidane after talks revealed via ESPN

Kevin Phillips is adamant Tottenham will be in contact with Zinedine Zidane over their vacant managerial position.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner expects “a phonecall will be made” if the 48-year-old leaves Real Madrid this summer.

As quoted by ESPN, Zidane said he will hold talks with the La Liga giants regarding his future “in the next few days” after his side narrowly missed out on the league title.

Fabrizio Romano claims ex-Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is being lined up to replace the Frenchman if he does decide to leave the Bernabeu.

Football Insider understands Spurs are confident of appointing a new manager next week after narrowing down their shortlist to three names.

Phillips suggested Zidane would go straight to the top of Tottenham’s list if he becomes available.

“You would be crazy not to contact Zidane,” he told Football Insider.

“If he is going to leave Real Madrid he will be a wanted man. What he has achieved at Real Madrid is just phenomenal.

“I would imagine there will have been a conversation, a phonecall to the agent to ask ‘What are your thoughts? Would you be interested?’

“There is no bigger name in European football than Zidane. If I was a Tottenham supporter I would be desperate for Zidane. It would be so exciting if he came in.

“There is no two ways about it, he can attract big names to the club. I’m sure a phonecall will be made.”
