Phillips: Sunderland could complete 'huge' Flint signing after update
Cardiff City defender Aden Flint would enjoy similar success to Bailey Wright if he joined Sunderland this month, according to Kevin Phillips.
The Stadium of Light legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 32-year-old would be “a very good option” for Lee Johnson’s side because of his “huge” size.
Flint has entered the final six months of his contract at the Cardiff City Stadium.
According to Football League World (14 January), the Black Cats are considering a move for the 6 foot 5 inch centre-back.
Lee Johnson is said to be keen on a reunion with Flint, whom he previously worked with at Bristol City.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Flint, Phillips said: “I think he’d be a very good option, certainly at that level.

“He is useful in terms of his size. He is a huge guy.
“Like Bailey Wright, I think he could drop down a division and do a job for Sunderland. He’s someone who could dictate and organise that backline.
“Let’s not forget that he has chipped in with a fair few goals over the years. He gives you that added height from set plays.
“Sunderland have conceded from crosses in the last couple of games. We saw the equaliser at Wycombe and someone like Flint could help cut those goals out. I think he’d be a good addition.”
