Phillips: This is why Aston Villa may have just completed the signing of the summer
Aston Villa may have completed the “signing of the summer” in Danny Ings, according to Kevin Phillips.
The former Claret and Blue, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 29-year-old is “a brilliant signing” for Dean Smith’s side as he has qualities few strikers possess.
The Midlands club confirmed the signing of Ings on a three-year contract on August 4th.
According to Sky Sports, it comes after Villa agreed a fee of £25million with Southampton for the England international’s services.
Phillips claimed it is a “super, super deal” for his former side.
“It’s a super, super deal for Aston Villa,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“At that sort of money it could be the signing of the summer. It is an absolute coup for Villa.
“It went under the radar. I live in the area and I did not hear anything about it.
“What I like about Ings is that he runs in behind. You do not get that very often with the modern day striker. A brilliant signing for Villa.”
Speaking after the deal was confirmed, Smith told club media: “Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played.
“He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young academy players who are now in and around the first team.”
