Phillips: Winks told to quit Tottenham as Nuno stance revealed
Kevin Phillips insists Harry Winks’ potential Tottenham departure is the best move for all parties.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the midfielder’s future.
As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (July 29th), Winks is in talks to leave Spurs for a Premier League rival this summer.
Nuno Espirito Santo has given the midfielder the green light to leave and a Spurs source has updated to reveal to Football Insider the club want a permanent transfer rather than a loan.
Winks, 25, has slipped down the pecking order at Tottenham and is set for a fringe role if he stays.
After only making 15 Premier League appearances last season, Phillips claims Winks is well within his rights to leave.

“Talking to another club? I think that’s fair enough,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Instead of the manager coming in and stringing him along it’s a clean break.
“I actually like Harry I think he’s a quality player. He will do well for any side.
“Nuno has clearly made it clear that he’s not in his plans and there’s nothing he can do as a player after that.
“Obviously, the deal will have to suit Tottenham, they won’t let him go for nothing.
“It’s best for all parties, the last thing he wants is to sit on the bench next year.
“He’s not a boy anymore, he needs that regular football and if he can’t get it at Tottenham then it’s time to go.”
Winks had made 173 appearances for Tottenham during his career.
He has been at the club since 2002.
