Phillips 'wowed' by Rangers playmaker move after £5m bid
Kevin Phillips insists Rangers have to sell some of their midfielders even if they don’t sign Joey Veerman.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest reporters on the midfielder’s future.
On 17th July, The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell reported Veerman, who is under contract at Heerenveen until 2024, is one of Rangers’ top targets this summer.
Quoted by the Scottish Sun on 21st July, the 22-year-old claims his club are his exit “very difficult” by demanding a “crazy” £8million transfer fee.
These quotes came after Serie A side Verona had a £5m bid rejected for the versatile playmaker.
Rangers already have a packed midfield with new signing John Lundstram the seventh out and out central midfielder available to Steven Gerrard.

Phillips claims Rangers will have to sell some of those players even if Veerman doesn’t sign.
“Wow, you would think some of them will have to go,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“That, for me, is far too many. It’s that scenario of trying to keep everybody happy.
“Davis is coming to the twilight of his career, will he play a lot and be in there, maybe not.
“Look at the list of midfielders they have, why would you want to add more into that.
“The only way is if Rangers know some of them are leaving.
“It’s a strange one, another midfielder would only create problems.”
Veerman scored nine goals and chipped in with 11 assists in 35 outings for Heerenveen last term.
Impressively, he made his professional debut for former side FC Volendam aged just 17.
