Outspoken TV personality and avid Arsenal supporter Piers Morgan has said that Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele is the player he would take from the Gunners’ north London rivals.
The two sides are set to return from the international break and head straight into a derby clash for the early kick off on Saturday, with Spurs having not tasted defeat to their neighbours in the last six league meetings.
The Lilywhites have been in impressive form this season, currently sitting third in the Premier League table, and have already secured their place in the Champions League knock out stages after going unbeaten in their opening four group matches, including a convincing 3-1 win over current holders Real Madrid.
They have been driven on by impressive performances from the likes of Harry Kane, who has 13 goals in 14 appearances, and Christian Eriksen, who has played a key role just behind the striker with his creativity.
However, Morgan has made the shock claim that he would take Belgian midfielder Dembele, who has seen his game time limited through injury this season, over any other of the Tottenham stars.
Speaking on a special edition of Sky Sports’ The Debate, he said: “I would go for (Mousa) Dembele.
“Every time I watch Dembele, he runs the midfield, he’s a massive unit and he’s the kind of aggressive powerhouse in midfield that Arsenal have not had since (Patrick) Vieira left.
“That’s been our problem – we don’t have a general.”
While Spurs are fighting it out at the top of the table, Arsenal find themselves four points off their rivals in sixth, having endured a mix campaign which has seen them have to balance their league matches with their exploits in the Europa League.
In other Tottenham news, a journalist has revealed a major boost for the club ahead of the January transfer window.
