PL giants competing with Tottenham and Arsenal for England Under-17 goal machine - report

By Harvey Byrne

Premier League giants Manchester United are now competing with Tottenham and Arsenal to sign unsettled Manchester City youngster Jadon Sancho, according to a report.

The Manchester Evening News have claimed on their website that the Old Trafford giants have joined the race for the City teenager.

Spurs’ interest in the 17-year-old left-winger has been known for a while alongside Arsenal’s, but Manchester United’s name are new to the race.

The Evening News report states that Jose Mourinho’s side are “pushing hard” to convince Sancho to make the short tip across Manchester and win the race for his signature.

Sancho himself is detailed to want to be at a club where he feels there is a pathway for youngsters to the first team, which is something cash-rich Manchester City are unable to offer.

A Premier League club will however have to pay training compensation for his signing and it is said that the wide attacker is prepared to spend a year overseas to prevent his next club from having to pay a fee for his signature.

Football Insider verdict:

Sancho is looking to be a massive loss for City, but that could be to another club’s gain. The Englishman boasts a fine scoring record in the youth ranks of the Manchester club with a fine 20 goals and eight assists in 35 matches last season. He has also bagged 13 times in 16 appearances for the England Under-17s from his wide position and if he could bring those sorts of returns to senior level he could become one of England’s best players. Now, Tottenham have shown in recent seasons that they are willing to give youth a chance in the Premier League and Dele Alli has since excelled, meaning Spurs could certainly be of consideration for the youngster.
