PL playmaker wants to force £35m Arsenal move - report

By Derek Smithson

Leicester ace Riyad Mahrez is hoping to complete a move to Arsenal in the summer window, according to a report.

The Sun claim that the 26-year-old is keen on moving to the Emirates Stadium and will reject interest from Italian club Roma.

It is understood that the playmaker has told the Foxes he wants to leave and has his heart set on a move to the Gunners.

The report details that Arsene Wenger could turn to a £35million deal for Mahrez as Monaco are reluctant to sell winger Thomas Lemar.

Mahrez is regarded as one of the outstanding players at the King Power Stadium and is currently with Leicester for pre-season.

The right winger played an integral role in the club’s Premier League triumph in the 2015/16 campaign and stayed with the Foxes last season despite being linked with a move away.

He made 48 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and supplying seven assists in return.

Football Insider verdict:

Arsenal already have an exciting attacking set-up at their disposal, but Mahrez would bring an extra bit of quality to the side. The Gunners currently have the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Lucas Perez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi competing for a starting position. However, tricky winger Mahrez would bring a different dimension and would help improve the starting line-up. The Algeria international proved his qualities in the 2015/16 campaign when he won the PFA Player of the Year and Arsenal would have a real player on their hands if he can rediscover that form.
