'Please god no', 'Cart horse' - Everton fans go berserk at reported Allardyce transfer reunion
Sam Allardyce will attempt to prise Phil Jones from Manchester United this summer if he continues as manager at Goodison Park in the summer, but fans are rattled by the suggested switch in The Times.
If the move does come off, it will see Big Sam reunited with Jones after giving him his first professional debut for Blackburn Rovers back in 2009.
With just over 12 months remaining on the defender’s contract, Allardyce sees the 26-year-old as an ideal replacement in an ageing Toffees back line.
Phil Jagielka is 35, while Ashley Williams is 33, and with Michael Keane struggling to settle at the back, it has meant that an overhaul defensively is imperative once the season ends.
The Manchester United enforcer has endured an injury-ravaged campaign this season, finding himself in and out of Jose Mourinho’s team.
It’s looking as though his Old Trafford days are numbered with summer purchases likely, he will undoubtedly find himself even further down the pecking order.
