Possible Man City swoop for Leeds star Bamford a 'joke' amid Athletic update - pundit
Frank McAvennie insists there is no chance Man City will move for Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on Harry Kane’s future.
On 3 August, The Athletic claimed Man City will not pay more than £130million for Kane while Tottenham are demanding closer to £150million.
City could look for alternative striker targets with this site reporting on 13 July that a move for Danny Ings had been explored.
However, he has now signed for Aston Villa and McAvennie has dismissed the thought that Bamford could be next on City’s shortlist.
“Someone told me that City should sign Bamford,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“No, not for me. Is that a joke? That’s what I asked him.
“Man City want that big-name striker, Bamford isn’t that.
“Maybe not a big name actually, but they wanted Kane, arguably the best striker in the world.
“Bamford isn’t one of the best. Is he going to come into that team and win them the Champions League? No.
“Do City even need a striker? I’m not so sure, they don’t really play with one.
“Kane is worth changing your system for, Bamford isn’t. He’s a good striker and people say he’s proven in the Premier League.
“He’s done one season, maybe he’ll do it again this year. But there’s no way City sign him off the back of one good season.”
Bamford scored 17 goals and picked up 7 assists in the Premier League last season.
He barely missed a minute of action as Leeds secured a top half finish.
