Would prefer Schmeichel: Arsenal fans react on Twitter to reported interest in 29-year-old
By Will Butcher
Arsenal fans are not pleased on Twitter after learning that their club are reportedly interested in Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
It is believed that a bid of around £13million will be enough to see the 56-time Portugal international join the Gunners, but they face competition from Ligue 1 giants Marseille.
Sporting’s number one has kept 12 clean sheets during his 31 league and cup appearances, with the club sitting third and nine points adrift of Porto in the Primeira Liga.
There has been a feeling at the Emirates that Petr Cech’s performances have dipped in quality this season.

Meanwhile, Colombian stopper David Ospina’s future in north London is also under threat with reports suggesting he could leave the club.
However, Arsenal fans are not happy with Patricio as their new No.1, with some fans claiming that Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel would be a better buy after the Sun claimed Arsenal were keen on the Denmark international.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Would prefer Schmeichel

Rui won't come unless he's the number 1 , that's why he didn't go to city in the summer , none the less top keeper

Arsenal linked with Butland, Pickford, Schmeichel & Patricio in the last week. A summer of rumours & then Cech gets captaincy and 10yr deal.

Patricio has remained with Sporting throughout his whole career after making his professional debut for the club way back in November 2006 aged just 18.
It remains to be seen if the Gunners will attempt to sign the stopper, who has a contract with his current club until the summer of 2022.
