Coventry City 'planning for next 20 years' after '£1.6m' development
Coventry City are beginning long-term plans at the Coventry Building Society Arena with the purchase of new land.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the expected cost is not significant, but it does mark an important moment.
The Sky Blues are back in England's top flight for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign, but are currently sitting 18th in the table after five games.
Positive news has recently emerged off the pitch, though, with the purchase of a council-owned car park set to be green-lighted by Coventry City Council.
A mutually-beneficial relationship appears to be forming between the two after years of conflict, with Doug King promising future regeneration around the CBS Arena.
No plans for the plot of land have been made public, but there is a growing excitement, as Coventry plan to pay the fee over the next 10 years.
Coventry City are 'planning for the next 20 years'
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes it will be the beginning of a 20-year plan around the CBS, and at a reasonable price.
Well, it's not a lot, clearly. And I'm sure that they're planning for the next 20 years. They may well be bouncing up and down a little bit," he said.
"That's probably within their plan so no, I don't think significantly; I think they take that opportunity and take it from there.
"But £1.6million is completely lost in the round in terms of these sorts of projects."
More details of the use for the new plot of land are expected to emerge after the deal is complete, which should be signed off on Tuesday, 13 October.
What does the near future hold for Frank Lampard?
Understandably, supporters at the CBS are concerned about impending relegation from the Premier League straight after winning promotion.
Coventry have taken a huge step towards safety with an unexpected 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, but Frank Lampard remains one of the favourites to be sacked first.
In fact, Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Lampard is facing sack calls already, with the risk of a fan revolt emerging at the CBS.
Before the Sky Blues' trip to the City Ground, their season looked extremely bleak, and the upcoming game against Newcastle United will be huge.
