Frank Lampard 'likely to be replaced' at Coventry City - and this is when
Frank Lampard will likely have until Christmas to turn around Coventry City's form or he will be sacked.
That is according to experienced former Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The Sky Blues have struggled at the start of the season, conceding 10 goals in their opening four games and failing to score one of their own, with Brighton hitting Lampard's team for five on Sunday.
The former Everton and Chelsea boss has been in charge since November 2024 and took Coventry to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years when they won the Championship last season.
Yet they risk going straight back down if things do not change quickly, and decision-makers will be forced into action on Lampard.
It has been a tough run of fixtures to start the season for Coventry, who have already travelled to Arsenal and Manchester City, but upcoming clashes against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Tottenham will be far from easy.
Frank Lampard 'was the messiah' four months ago
If it goes poorly, Coventry feels as if it could well be Lampard's final opportunity as a Premier League manager.
The 48-year-old had good times with Chelsea and Everton but ultimately failed in both roles, and was eventually sacked.
Lampard has built his Coventry team, however, and will not be ready to give up on them yet.
"Now also you've got Coventry in there. All over the place. Never spent so much money. But they haven't got a point yet," King told Football Insider.
"To get beat 5-0 at home to Brighton. Jesus Christ. That really is an eye-opener, isn't it? Straight on to the manager. Four months ago, he was the Messiah.
"You know, life of Brian, isn't it? It's the life of Brian, Monty Python. He's Not the Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy).
"Frank Lampard's a football man who has a fantastic record as a football player, and probably if Chelsea had stuck with him, they'd have still won the European Cup.
"But this is a difficult situation for him now. I mean, it'll be the old adage by Christmas. If things are still going bad at Christmas, he will probably get replaced."
Lampard retains fan backing
Despite Sunday's difficult afternoon, Coventry fans remained supportive of the team and Lampard.
"After the red card it’s very difficult but I’m thankful for the reaction of the fans at the end because they understand this group give everything," the Englishman said after the game.
"My job is to win games so it’s not nice but we’ve had a great relationship with the fans for a long time here. I think they all understood this jump, it’s going to be difficult for us and the players are giving everything.
"Having the fans and that nature of support is a big deal and we all appreciate it.”
