Frank Lampard 'in danger' at Coventry City after sack calls

Frank Lampard is facing increasing scrutiny on his position as Coventry City manager after a poor start to the season.

Brighton's emphatic 5-0 win at the CBS Arena last time out means the Sky Blues have now lost all four games following their return to Premier League football.

While there has been an acceptance that they would be involved in a relegation battle this season, the powers that be at Coventry are now less than impressed.

Former Coventry assistant manager Mick Brown told Football Insider that Lampard is now "in danger" at Coventry with no guaruntees over his job despite the club's backing.

Coventry are keen to stick with their manager after the work he did to get them promoted and win the title last season, but concerns are growing behind the scenes.

Despite being reluctant to make a change, Coventry may be left with no choice if negative results leave them stranded at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Could Frank Lampard be sacked by Coventry City?

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Coventry owner Doug King is planning to stand by Lampard regardless of the club's results this season.

However, after four games and four defeats in the top flight, the manager's position is already beginning to be called into question with the supporters becoming restless.

Should their run of bad results continue ahead of a difficult run of fixtures, then questions may be asked of Lampard and the club could be tempted to pull the trigger.

"There are a lot of questions that have to be asked at Coventry at the moment," Brown told Football Insider.

"Of course Coventry would like to stick by the manager for what he's done in the last couple of years, but it's a lot easier to do that when you're getting results or playing well.

"When you come up into the Premier League and you're losing games 1-0 or fighting hard and just missing out, that can be okay, but losing 5-0 at home is very worrying.

"Brighton are a good side, and on their day they can beat anybody, but that doesn't ease the frustrations amongst the Coventry fans who will want answers

"Frank Lampard will come under huge pressure, and he's not invincible, he's no different to anybody else, if results aren't going his way then questions are going to be asked.

"In an ideal world, Coventry would stick by him, but if results don't improve they will get to a stage where that becomes very difficult to do."

How do Coventry feel about losing Lampard?

Despite the growing pressure on Lampard's position at Coventry, the club remain reluctant to part ways with their manager, and hope he will be able to turn things around.

This comes after they fought to keep hold of him following their promotion to the Premier League, despite interest from rival clubs in the top flight.

Brown told Football Insider back in June that Lampard was increasingly likely to stay at Coventry with the club confident despite links with the at-the-time vacant Crystal Palace job.

The Eagles hold Lampard in high regard and had considered a move to lure him away from the CBS Arena in their efforts to replace Oliver Glasner.

However, a lofty release clause included in his Sky Blues contract made any approach difficult, as Coventry had no plans to lose their manager and still hope to back him.
