Gustavo Hamer will be knocking on Frank Lampard's door wondering why his minutes at Coventry City have been slim so far.

The Sky Blues are hoping to stay in the Premier League after achieving promotion last season.

However, so far, their efforts have been in vain, with Coventry currently in the relegation zone.

There are many issues mounting for Lampard this season, but one keeps propping up more than most.

Coventry have struggled to find the back of the net consistently this season, leaving Lampard searching for answers.

One player who could offer a solution is Hamer, whose attacking quality makes his limited involvement all the more difficult to understand.

Gustavo Hamer is the solution to Coventry's goalscoring woes

This season so far, Coventry have scored the fewest goals in the Premier League.

While you may assume it is down to poor finishing from the forwards, statistics show that the Sky Blues are not creating enough.

Across the 20 teams, Lampard's side have the fewest big chances created as per FotMob, with just 10.

The English manager has a solution to his problem already in his squad, and that is with Hamer.

Last season, the former Sheffield United midfielder was one of the best creators in the Championship.

He picked up 12 assists, leading the way in the English second division, while also being in the 96.8th percentile for big chances created.

In the Premier League, Hamer has not been given an opportunity. Lampard has yet to start the 2026 summer signing, and he has only played 48 minutes.

With the newly promoted team in the relegation zone and struggling to find the net, something needs to change, and Hamer can be that difference.

Hamer will be regretting the move as things stand

Hamer will undoubtedly be unhappy with his minutes, as the 29-year-old would have joined with ambitions of becoming a Premier League regular.

That has yet to happen, but it is not down to the midfielder himself.

Lampard simply has not given him the chance to prove himself, and whether that is due to how he trains or through other various reasons we may not know, remains to be seen.

One thing is for sure: Coventry need to be better in the final third, and Hamer's creativity can unlock that for the Sky Blues this season.
