Prutton: Forget his public comments, this is what Monk will really be saying to Leeds players
By Amir Mir
David Prutton believes Garry Monk will be “pushing” his Leeds players despite stating in public that his side have done “brilliantly” to be in their current position.
The Yorkshire outfit are sitting in the top six after 40 matches of the Championship season as there is the possibility that they can clinch a play-off spot at the end of the campaign.
However, back-to-back defeats in recent days has forced Monk’s side to look over their shoulders at the chasing pack, who will be looking to close the gap in the table.
Eighth-placed Preston are three places below and eight points behind Leeds in the table as the duo are set to meet at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
Further dropped points at the weekend will prove to be damaging for the Whites and Prutton has revealed what Monk will be really telling his players.

“I read Garry say that Leeds have done brilliantly well to be in this position and he’s right,” Prutton told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“But, trust me, that won’t be the attitude behind closed doors. He’ll be pushing the players and keeping them keen. It’s okay talking about each game as it comes when it’s autumn and you’ve got months ahead of you, but Leeds need to finish this off. You can’t hide from that fact and I’m sure Garry isn’t.”
Former Swansea manager Monk joined the Elland Road outfit in the summer and the Englishmen has since changed the fortunes around at the club.
After a number of years in the wilderness, he has revived one of England’s sleeping giants where they now have the chance to end their 13-year absence from the top flight.
It is likely that they will have to go through the play-offs in order to secure promotion with Huddersfield, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday the other teams currently occupying those places.
In other Leeds news, David Prutton has also predicted the Whites clash against Preston.
