Pundit 'amazed' by 'huge' news on Man United and Marc Guehi
Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi would be an "amazing" signing for Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson claimed the 23-year-old would provide the Red Devils defensive stability for years to come should he make the move.
As revealed by Football Insider (27 November), Man United have made the England international their "number one January target".
Since his move from Chelsea to Selhurst Park, Guehi's stellar performances have seen him become a regular in Gareth Southgate's England side after making 96 appearances for the Eagles.
Football Insider also revealed (19 October) that Palace are preparing to approach Guehi to extend his stay in southeast London.
Robinson insists that a deal for Guehi could be possible despite United being at risk of having no Champions League football this season and potentially falling out of the European spots in the Premier League.
"Regardless of all that's going on at Man United, they're still one of the biggest football clubs in the world," he told Football Insider.
"They're a huge draw for players. The Champions League probably isn't there for them anymore this season, European football may not be there for them next season either.
"But they have to rebuild. If they're looking at players of his ilk - a young, English, top, top-quality player who will pay for England for a long time - that's the kind of player that I'd be excited for if I were a Man United fan.
"With Marc Guehi, you're buying for the here and now and you're also putting in solid foundations for the coming years - he'll be amazing.
"Casemiro, for example, is a fantastic signing and one for the here and now, but he's not going to be playing for Man United in five years.
"If you get players like Guehi, you absolutely will."
