Pundit can't believe Tottenham would allow Rodon to sign for new club as manager touts move
Noel Whelan has insisted Tottenham should not allow Joe Rodon to leave on loan in January despite a lack of game time this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker suggested Spurs’ inconsistent defensive displays could see the 23-year-old feature more over the coming months.
Speaking at his pre-international break press conference, Wales manager Rob Page confessed he was concerned about the defender’s lack of action ahead of Wales’ fixtures.
The 47-year-old questioned whether Spurs could “get him out on loan” in January to get more game time under his belt.
Rodon has played just three times across all competitions for Spurs this season.
However, Whelan shot down the suggestion he should seal a move away.

Asked if Spurs should consider a loan for Rodon in January, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “No, absolutely not.
“He’s a quality centre half and right now we’re still seeing Tottenham shipping goals. We don’t know whether there’s going to be suspension or injuries.
“Doing that, you’re lessening and weakening your side to benefit somebody else. Absolutely not. I think you want to see players like that at the club.
“They bring out the best in other defenders and bring out the best in him. You want to see players fight for their position and that’s what the manager wants as well.
“Internationally, it will not change anything. He will still get called up because he’s one of the best defenders in the Wales squad.
“He’s getting that game time in Europe, as long as they stay in that competition, and the other cup competitions.
“There’s nothing to say he won’t fight his way back into that first-team reckoning at Tottenham. Look, it’s about Tottenham first and international second.”
