Pundit casts new Jack Grealish 'doubt' amid 'massive' Man City claim

Noel Whelan has insisted a potential start against Borussia Dortmund would be “massive” for Man City ace Jack Grealish.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 27-year-old must “cast doubt” in Pep Guardiola’s head with his performances in every competition.

Grealish, who played 62 minutes in the 4-0 away win over Sevilla last week (6 September), could make a second consecutive start against Dortmund this week (14 September).

The England international has recently recovered from ligament damage sustained during the win over Bournemouth last month (13 August).

The British-record transfer managed just six goals and four assists in 39 games last term.

Football Insider revealed earlier this year (1 April), that Man City chiefs are “not happy” with Grealish as he continues to struggle to live up to his billing as well as massive fee and wages.

Whelan insisted the Champions League clash against Dortmund (14 September) could be a “massive game” for the former Aston Villa star.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “These are big games for Jack Grealish.

“He’s got to stamp his authority on them and show what kind of player he is.

“It doesn’t matter what competition it is now. Every time he puts on a Man City shirt, he’s got to be proving a point.

“He has to do something special. That’s the same for a lot of players at City and in the Premier League.

“He’s got to cast that doubt in Pep Guardiola’s mind. He’s got to convince Pep that dropping him is the wrong thing.

“This is a massive game for him – if he starts.”
