Pundit convinced Aston Villa in talks to sign Cantwell and Buendia is playing key role

Kevin Campbell claims Emiliano Buendia may have played a role in convincing Aston Villa to move for Todd Cantwell.

The former Arsenal hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, described Cantwell as a “really decent” player.

Football Insider first broke news on 21st July that Villa were in advanced talks to sign the midfielder, who is under contract at Carrow Road until next summer.

It is understood there is growing confidence a deal can be done after progress was made in talks.

Cantwell, 23, scored six goals and chipped in with seven assists as Norwich won the Championship last season.

He also impressed during the 2019-20 Premier League season and was heavily linked with a move that summer.

Campbell admits he is a fan of Cantwell and speculated Buendia’s role in the potential transfer.

“I like Todd Cantwell, he’s a good player,” Campbell told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“They have to go for someone like that. He’s a really decent player.

“He’s done so well at Norwich and helped them get promoted but they are a selling club.

“Buendia’s already gone and I’m sure he’s been talking to Villa, talking very highly of Cantwell.

“We could see them link up again.”

On 7th June, Football Insider revealed the cost of Buendia’s transfer to Villa will be at least £57million.

This site also revealed yesterday (2nd August) that Leon Bailey is undergoing an overseas medical ahead of a move to Villa worth £35million including add-ons.
