Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “It’s strategy. Having a plan in place. Even when the season’s over, straight away they’re back in the business.
“They’re looking at what they need to strengthen, what they need to challenge in the Premier League next year.
“To progress up the league, up the table to start pushing for honours in the Premier League and Cup competitions now.
“They’ve already targeted players from the end of last season they think they could do with. Emi Buendia was not a shot in the dark. That is someone they’ve looked at for a long, long time.
“There’s nothing better than a player knowing his future and where he’s going to be playing at.
” Villa are doing everything spot on right now. They’re going to be a really exciting team to watch play next season.”
