Pundit Exclusive: Bielsa told to seal 'Quality' Leeds midfield signing
Noel Whelan has insisted Leeds United need to sign more “quality” midfielders to ease the burden on Mateusz Klich.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites forward and boyhood Elland Raod fan accused the 30-year-old of “drifting” through games in recent months and said he needs to be rotated.
Klich has started every Premier League game this season but his performances have seen a downturn in recent games.
Against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday the Poland international registered a pass completion rate of 71.4 per cent – his lowest of the season – and he also failed to make a tackle, according to FBRef.
Asked by Football Insider whether Klich’s performance shows Leeds need to add to their midfield options, Whelan said: “There has to be. There’s got to be more signings with quality and options.
“Mateusz Klich hasn’t been himself for a month and a half now. Everybody expects more from him. He’s not creating, he’s not doing too much. He kind of drifts through games without you noticing him and that’s not a good thing.

“I think if we had more strength in depth we would make changes in that central midfield area. At the minute, we don’t have that luxury so we’ve got to play certain players even if they are off the boil.
“You look at your bigger clubs, they can make six changes and still bring in that quality. We don’t have that luxury or that option.
“Unfortunately, it’s not about the one player, all over the field we were second best [against Brighton]. There were six out of 10s, there were poor performances and that’s off the back of a disappointing defeat to Crawley.”
