Pundit Exclusive: Celtic tipped to seal Ryan Kent-like signing after big Jan reveal

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has tipped Celtic to sign a winger in January amid reports QPR attacker Bright Osayi-Samuel is Neil Lennon's number one target.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the Parkhead legend suggested the Hoops need to sign a player like Rangers' Ryan Kent when the transfer window reopens next month.

A long-term injury to James Forrest has left Neil Lennon's side short in wide areas with Ryan Christie forced to play as a makeshift right-winger in recent weeks.

The Daily Mail claim, via the Daily Record, that QPR forward Osayi-Samuel is Celtic's "priority" target in January as the player continues to snub a new deal at Loftus Road.

When asked by Football Insider if he expects a winger to arrive at Celtic Park next month, McAvennie said: "I think signing a winger in January is the priority.

"Whether it is left or right I think they will go out and get someone.

"When a team sits in you need somebody that can get in behind.

"Across the city they have got Ryan Kent who can do that. He can pick that wee pocket and if he does come in the full-backs get beyond.

"Celtic used to do that but not anymore. It has all changed, especially while Forrest has been out."
