Liverpool will “definitely” consider a move for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to Kevin Phillips.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested that Jurgen Klopp will be in contact with people that know the 28-year-old to establish his profile.
This site revealed on Wednesday that the Austria international is a potential target for the Reds who have been left exposed in defence following injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Joel Matip.
Alaba will be available on a free transfer next summer after rejecting Bayern’s latest offer of a new deal and can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January.
The Reds have already raided the Bundesliga giants once this season, signing Thiago Alcantara for a fee of £20million deal in September.
When asked by Football Insider if Alaba would be a welcome addition at Anfield, Phillips said: “Alaba is definitely an option.
“It is certainly an area that Liverpool will look at. He has a lot of quality and can play in a number of positions.
“He will definitely be a player that Klopp will look at and Klopp will know him well. He will be in contact with people that know him very well.
“They will have targets already, I am pretty sure of that. Their recruitment and scouting has been amazing since Klopp has been there. It would not surprise me if a player of that calibre came through the door.”
