Kevin Campbell has tipped Ainsley Maitland-Niles to pursue an exit from Arsenal in the summer if he continues to be snubbed by Mikel Arteta.
The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said there is no point in the 23-year-old being a bit-part player at the Emirates having proved that he can perform both at club and international level.
Arteta has selected Hector Bellerin at right-back for the past two Premier League fixtures, an unexpected call given Maitland-Niles’ impressive performance at Goodison Park.
According to Sky Sports, the verstaile midfielder was the subject of interest from Wolves in the summer but opted to remain in London and fight for his place.
However, he has started just four league matches in the 2020/21 campaign, with most of his game time coming in the Europa League.
When asked by Football Insider if he expected Maitland-Niles to pursue an exit from the club in 2021, Campbell said: “I think he will pursue an exit in the summer.
“Although he loves the club, he is an England international now – he has to play football.
“There is no point loving the club and being a bit-part player. You have proven you can do it on numerous occasions, you are a full England international and you are on the bench…
“That is not going to last.”
In September, Maitland-Niles made his debut for England in a goalless draw with Denmark.
He has made five substitute appearances for Gareth Southgate’s side in total.
