Pundit Exclusive: Rangers target may push for Ibrox move in Jan amid pre-contract reveal

QPR attacker Bright Osayi-Samuel may push for a move to Rangers in January as a result of Steven Gerrard’s side’s blistering start to the 2020/21 campaign.

That is according to former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs about the prospect of the 22-year-old leaving Loftus Road next year.

He has just seven months left on his contract at QPR and can sign a pre-contract with a foreign club when the transfer window re-opens on 1 January.

Football Insider revealed in October that the Gers, along with Old Firm rivals Celtic, are interested in signing the winger on a pre-contract agreement next year.

Osayi-Samuel looks destined to leave Loftus Road next summer after the club’s boss Mark Warburton told West London Sport that talks over a new deal had stalled.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the sought-after player’s future, Phillips said:

“He could push for a move in January. The way Rangers are playing and the troubles Celtic are having, bar a major collapse, it looks like Rangers will go and secure the league title.

“For a player in a position like Samuel, it is crazy up there, he could quickly become a legend and be part of something special.

“It would not surprise me if he was to move to Ibrox.

“He has already shown that he can perform down here and I think he would be exceptional up there. He would not have any problems shining.

“If he was to leave QPR there would be quite a few clubs interested in signing him. If he is to leave I think there will be a real battle for his signature because he is a good, young player.”

The capture of a player like Osayi-Samuel would be a major blow to a player like Brandon Barker, who is hoping to establish himself as a wide attacker at Ibrox.
