Pundit Exclusive: Rangers tipped to swoop for Billy Gilmour after big development
Rangers would snap Chelsea’s fingers off if they were offered the chance to take former youth player Billy Gilmour back to Ibrox on loan.
That is the view of former England and Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the future of the teenage midfielder after Frank Lampard was sacked as manager of Chelsea.
The Telegraph report the Scotsman is set to leave Stamford Bridge on loan until the end of the season in a bid to secure regular game time ahead of this summer’s European Championships.
Tellingly, the 19-year-old was not included in Thomas Tuchel’s 20-man matchday squad for his first game in charge against Wolves on Wednesday evening.
Reports last November suggested the Glasgow giants were interested in bringing Gilmour back north of the border but Steven Gerrard insisted they had no made an approach for him.
He told the Daily Record: “He’s a fabulous little player but there has been no contact between the clubs or the managers.”

Asked by Football Insider whether Rangers may be tempted to attempt to lure him from Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes on Monday, Agbonlahor said: “I think it’s something that could happen definitely.
“Thomas Tuchel will come in and probably have a look at his squad and see the players that he doesn’t really want.
“We’ll have to see how Tuchel sees the squad.
“I’m sure Rangers would snap Chelsea’s fingers off to get him on loan.
“But I’m sure Gilmour will want to break into the Chelsea team regularly.”
Gilmour is yet to make his senior debut for Scotland despite having 17 Chelsea games under his belt at such a young age.
Across his youth international career, he has played 28 times and scored six goals.
