Michael Brown believes Danny Rose could make a surprise return to the Tottenham side if he stays past Friday’s transfer deadline.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs midfielder believes the 30-year-old will be in high demand among the Championship but suggests that he may choose to remain in north London.

As revealed by Football Insider, Middlesbrough are plotting an ambitious move to sign the England left-back, who has been given the green light to leave Spurs on loan or permanently, ahead of Friday’s 5pm deadline.

Rose, who was shipped out on loan to Newcastle United in January, has been frozen out of the first-team setup by Jose Mourinho and he has not featured in a single matchday squad this season.

However, Brown believes that the intense fixture schedule could open the door for Rose to make a surprise return to the side if he decides not to leave north London.

Brown told Football Insider: “Well for me, I don’t think it’s a surprise move to go to Middlesbrough if I’m Danny Rose – I think there are a lot of clubs in the Championship who will want to sign him.

“It’s just whether he chooses to go and do that, play some football or just back himself and get some minutes at Spurs – they are obviously going to play a lot of games, can he work his way in to get an opportunity if he waits a little bit longer?”

Rose’s last Tottenham appearance came in a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool back in January.

He played just three times in 13 Premier League games before he joined Newcastle for the rest of the 2019/20 season.

In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has been tipped to be driving a late transfer deal.
