Pundit hails 'great news' for Rangers after Kamara update from Campbell
Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Glen Kamara as the Rangers midfielder closes in on a new long-term contract at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker claimed it would be “great news” for Steven Gerrard’s side if the 25-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal.
According to The Athletic‘s Jordan Campbell (August 5th), the Finland international is edging closer to signing a new long-term contract at Ibrox.
As quoted by Sky Sports on Friday, Gerrard revealed the club had made Kamara “a real strong contract offer” to replace his current agreement which expires in 2023.
There has been much speculation around the centre-midfielder’s future this summer amid interest from a number of Premier League sides.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Whelan said: “It’s great news for Rangers if he signs a new deal.

“For Rangers, this summer was always going to be about keeping their best players and keeping their internationals and there’s no doubt about it, Kamara is one of them.
“He’s been vitally important to their recent success. I’d say he was one of their top five players last year.
“Gerrard will not want to lose any of his squad. It is about strengthening in some positions and keeping that core group, who have worked so hard under Gerrard, together so they can keep the Scottish Premiership title at Ibrox.”
