Pundit hails 'great' Salah boost after ESPN's Liverpool update - pundit

Mohamed Salah is likely to stay at Liverpool if Kylian Mbappe signs a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, according to Kevin Phillips.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the Anfield faithful would be “very upset” and “annoyed” with their owners if Salah, 29, left the club.

Salah has entered the final 18 months of his contract on Merseyside and negotiations over a new deal have been so far problematic.

In an interview with Anfield Watch (2 January), Fabrizio Romano revealed PSG are admirers of the Reds winger and were eyeing a move for him prior to signing Lionel Messi.

The French giants could be in the market for a forward this summer if Kylian Mbappe leave upon the expiration of his contract.

However, according to ESPN‘s Julien Laurens (18 January), PSG are growing confident of tying their star man down to a new agreement despite interest from Real Madrid.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs how the news would be received at Liverpool, Phillips said:

“That’s great news for the club in relation to Salah’s future.

“For me though, why would you want to go there anyway? Stay where you are.

“I know they may be able to give him the salary he wants but Liverpool are far superior, historically, in world football.

“This contract situation needs to get sorted. I think the fans would be very upset and annoyed if Salah left to join a PSG. It has to be a priority for the club. They have to get this situation sorted.

“Hopefully it will get signed once he’s back from the African Cup of Nations.”
