Pundit hammers 'boring' Newcastle fans and slams Woodman after worst-in-Premier League reveal
Freddie Woodman is more to blame than Steve Bruce for Newcastle United starting the season badly, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England star insisted a “proper” goalkeeper would have stopped Cristiano Ronaldo from scoring a brace against Newcastle at the weekend.
Woodman parried a shot into Ronaldo’s path for his first goal at Old Trafford before being nutmegged for the second.
The 24-year-old has played every minute of the season so far with Martin Dubravka injured and Karl Darlow recovering from covid.
According to FBRef, no goalkeeper in the Premier League has conceded more goals than Woodman’s 12.
“Criticising Bruce is boring from Newcastle fans,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Your manager is managing a team with limited funds. Everyone else is spending money and Newcastle aren’t so what do you expect from him?
“They put up a great fight against Manchester United for 40 minutes until the keeper decided to throw one in and Ronaldo’s second goal went through his legs. With a proper keeper both of Ronaldo’s goals wouldn’t have gone in. The keeper let him down.
“The Fernandes goal you can’t do anything about.
“Steve Bruce deserves a break, he will keep them in the league but he can’t take them to the next level with limited funds. Newcastle fans need to understand that. I don’t understand what more they want for him.”
Woodman took to Instagram after the 4-1 thrashing by Man United to say he had a “tough day at the office”.
The former England Under-21 star vowed to learn from the experience.
