Pundit issues 'devastating' Man City verdict after journalist's Marc Cucurella update
Alan Hutton has claimed Man City will be “devastated” after Chelsea hijacked their move for Brighton defender Marc Cucurella.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said City still need to strengthen the left-back position.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano (3 August), Chelsea have reached an agreement with Brighton worth over £50million for Cucurella, 24.
The Spain international is said to be about to put pen to paper on a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Cucurella has four years remaining on his contract at the Amex Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side have had two bids turned down for defender and they have been unwilling to meet the Seagull’s £50million valuation.

When asked if City will be disappointed to lose out on Cucurella to their rivals, Hutton told Football Insider: “Arguably you’re going to a rival and Man City needed a left-back, that’s the biggest point in this.
“Obviously [Oleksandr] Zinchenko left to go to Arsenal so there’s a void there I think.
“Even when [Benjamin] Mendy was there, he didn’t really hit the ground running, so I did think it’s a position where they’ve needed to strengthen for a number of seasons.
“They’ve identified Cucurella as that attacking threat and they weren’t willing to meet the valuation from Brighton. Man City will obviously be devastated, he was their number one target and he’s gone to a rival.“
