Pundit verdict on Julian Alvarez potentially replacing Erling Haaland amid '100 per cent' Man City claim

Kevin Campbell is adamant Erling Haaland will start for Man City at West Ham on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker suggested there is no chance of the 22-year-old being replaced by Julian Alvarez at the London Stadium.

Haaland made his full debut for the Premier League champions in the FA Community Shield on Saturday.

The summer signing missed a number of chances at the King Power Stadium as Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners.

Alvarez came off the bench in the second half and impressed, scoring City’s only goal of the game.

When asked by Football Insider if Pep Guardiola has a decision on his hands this weekend, Campbell said: “Haaland starts, 100 per cent.

“There is no messing around here. He is their main striker.

“Listen, you have to play him so the other players can get to understand his game. They will be working in training but that connection comes in the matches. Haaland is the main guy.

“He has been brought in to win every trophy. There will be no messing around.

“They haven’t had a striker who can put the ball away for two years. Now they have that striker. They have to work with him. Once it clicks there will be no turning back.

“Alvarez is a very good player though, don’t get me wrong. He is very good but he will not be taking Haaland’s spot.”
