Pundit issues 'massive' Giovanni van Bronckhorst sack claim after Rangers source's reveal
Noel Whelan has suggested Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s job security won’t be improved even if Rangers beat Dundee United on Saturday (17 September).
The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Ibrox club are “expected to win every game” outside the Old Firm derby.
Football Insider revealed on Thursday (15 September) that Van Bronckhorst is under growing threat of the sack after a dismal start to the campaign.
Rangers chiefs are believed to be increasingly concerned about how far the team has slipped behind Celtic in the wake of a 4-0 Old Firm demolition earlier this month.
The Gers have also suffered two demoralising defeats in the Champions League – losing 3-0 at home against Napoli and 4-0 away at Ajax.
Whelan has urged Van Bronckhorst to “pick his players up” ahead of a “massive game” in the title race against Dundee United.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’d expect Rangers to win that game no matter what’s going on behind the scenes.
“This is a league where – bar Celtic – you’re expected to win every game.
“There’s no shame or disrespect in that – but that’s just where we’re at, with the resources that Rangers have.
“They’re low in confidence, they haven’t won in a while, the winning feeling isn’t there.
“Domestically they’re behind Celtic, and in Europe they’ve been taught a few lessons.
“It’s going to be hard for them to take. Van Bronckhorst has got to pick the players up now because this has become a massive game for the league and for the manager himself.”
