Newcastle make Koulibaly their top target - and pundit hails the 'perfect' signing after source update
Kalidou Koulibaly would be a "perfect signing" for Newcastle United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker also suggested Newcastle should target Aaron Ramsey and Phillipe Coutinho.
A Newcastle source told Football Insider (October 9) Koulibaly will be top of the new regime's transfer targets.
He is seen as a marquee signing that can transform Newcastle's questionable backline.
Koulibaly is regarded as one of world football's best centre-backs but he turned 30 in June.
Despite his advancing years the Senegal captain still picked up the Serie A player of the month award for September.
The defender helped Napoli keep three clean sheets in September as they maintained their 100 per cent start to the season.
Luciano Spalletti's side have won all seven of their Serie A games this term and are two points clear at the top of the table.
Asked whether Koulabily could sign for Newcastle, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "Yes, he's a good player definitely.
"That's the sort of player I would be looking at, definitely.
"Those players, like Coutinho where it hasn't worked for him at Barcelona and they need the money. These are just the perfect signings.
"Someone like Aaron Ramsey, it's not worked for him at Juventus.
"These are the sort of players. They're going to have to pay good money but they should be looking at."
Koulibaly is under contract at Napoli until the summer of 2023.
He has played 292 games across all competitions for Napoli and has won the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup with the club.
