Pundit: Liverpool summer business is 'over' after 'unhappy' Klopp reveal
Frank McAvennie claims the return of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to full fitness is the best Liverpool fans can hope for this summer.
The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest out of Anfield.
Liverpool have struggled in the transfer market this summer with Football Insider revealing on 27 July that Jurgen Klopp has told friends he is “not happy”.
In more positive news, Van Dijk and Gomez both returned from injury in the Reds’ pre-season clash with Hertha Berlin.
Injuries to the defensive duo derailed Liverpool’s Premier League title defence last season.
Due to the lack of transfer activity at Anfield, McAvennie insists the return of both players is the best Liverpool fans can hope for ahead of the new season.

“That’s the best they can hope for,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“By the looks of things anyway, it’s very quiet at Anfield isn’t it? I think their summer is over.
“Last season they went from arguably the best centre half in the world to midfielders and then kids.
“It was an awful situation, one of the best defences to one of the worst.
“They are both good players and good teams miss good players.
“On Van Dijk’s day, there a few players better than him in world football, I mean that.
“He got absolutely spun in that game he came back. You expect him to be rusty after so long out.
“I’m sure he’ll be back to his best in no time. Without anyone coming in, that’s a boost Liverpool could do with.”
Van Dijk, 30, ended up in a heap on the floor while trying to defend one of Hertha’s goals.
The Reds lost their pre-season clash 4-3.
