Pundit makes 'massive' claim as Morelos shares new Rangers future reveal

Noel Whelan has hailed Steven Gerrard after Alfredo Morelos once again opened up about his Rangers future.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest comments from the Colombian forward.

In an interview with Colombian radio station El VBar de Caracol Radio (1 September) Morelos claimed he was “calm” when asked if he wanted to leave Rangers.

However the forward once again alluded to the fact he wants to leave the club in the future, saying he hopes to move “soon”.

Whelan insists Morelos will knuckle down and star for Rangers this season and hailed Gerrard’s influence.

“You have to give credit to Steven Gerrard,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“He managed him really well. Man management skills are massive in football these days.

“You could tell at points that Morelos was wayward and argumentative but the way Rangers have handled him and installed that belief is massively important.

“It’s brilliant to have an influential striker like that who is happy. He will score goals and he will probably end up as their top scorer again this season.

“But I think all the credit goes to the club and Gerrard for how they have taken that petulance out of him and made him mature as a player and as a person.”

Morelos has scored three goals in seven total outings this season.

He scored what looked to be a massive goal against Malmo before a second-half defensive collapse dumped the Gers out of the Champions League.
