Pundit predicts two in-form Liverpool stars could be sold after Konate update
Kevin Campbell has tipped Nathaniel Phillips or Rhys Williams to be sold by Liverpool this summer with Ibrahima Konate on the brink of signing.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker claimed Konate, 22, is being brought in to make sure Jurgen Klopp’s side have the necessary cover to avoid another defensive crisis.
The Reds have been putting the finishing touches to a deal for the centre-half over the last 72 hours after telling RB Leipzig they will trigger his £30.5million release clause.
A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that Konate has agreed to pen a five-year contract worth £70,000-a-week after already undergoing the first part of a medical.
Campbell fears the move could have significant consequences for Phillips or Williams who both stepped up for Jurgen Klopp in the absence of the injured Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
“Phillips and Williams might be sold,” he told Football Insider. “They both ended the season playing really well but could go this summer.

“When you are a club like Liverpool and you are put in a position like they were last season, it is not nice. It was a really difficult situation.
“Everyone was looking over their shoulders and thinking, ‘Who is going to play?’ They had centre-midfielders playing at centre-half, it was a mess. It was crazy.
“Liverpool are making sure that they have got the depth. That is why they are signing Konate.
“When Van Dijk and Gomez come back Klopp wants to have enough options so that he doesn’t have to play them all of the time. Van Dijk always plays but now Klopp is thinking, ‘I need to protect him for the important games.’ That is smart management.”
