Pundit salutes West Ham star Cresswell after best-in-Premier League reveal

Noel Whelan has insisted West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell “has every attribute you could want” after another “fantastic” Europa League display.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old is “right up there among the best” in England.

Cresswell earned two assists with pinpoint deliveries either side of half-time last night as West Ham ran out 3-0 winners against Genk in the Europa League.

The left-back’s contribution last night means that he has assisted the most goals of any Premier League player in all competitions from set-pieces since the start of last season (Opta).

Cresswell also chipped in with a goal on the opening day of this season, opening the scoring in a 4-2 victory against Newcastle.

The England international has become an ever-present for West Ham since joining from Ipswich in 2013.

He has made 262 appearances for the east London club.

Whelan claimed the defender is “really enjoying” working under manager David Moyes.

“I’ve always rated Cresswell, I think he’s got a fantastic left foot,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“He’s got every attribute you could want from a left-sided player and now he’s coming up with more assists and end product.

“We knew that he’s a great set-piece taker, that’s no surprise.

“They’re a team that’s winning, the players that are full of confidence.

“Give them the freedom to express themselves and this is what happens.

“He’s an international player, he’s loving his football, really enjoying working under David Moyes and his teammates.

“He’s getting forward a lot more now, and centre-forwards will thrive off that because he can put it in the right areas.

“He’s right up there among the best, in my opinion.”
