Kevin Phillips has tipped Ianis Hagi to leave Rangers this summer after continuous reports about his future in the media.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Hagi’s agent is behind recent reports.
Romanian outlet Sport.ro claims 2. Bundesliga side VfL Bochum are in negotiations to sign Hagi.
It is claimed Bochum will sign Hagi as a statement of intent if they are promoted to the Bundesliga.
Earlier this year, Hagi’s father Gheorghe claimed, “I don’t think interest from Sevilla for Ianis is new. But I do know Lazio are also on this track too.” [Glasgow Evening Times]
Hagi, 22, only joined Rangers permanently last summer but has even been linked with a switch to RB Leipzig by Romanian outlet Digisport.
Phillips insists these reports are coming from Hagi’s agent but still predicted the midfielder to leave Ibrox this summer.
When asked by Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs if these reports were being pedalled by Hagi’s agent, Phillips said, “Yeah probably.
“They all do it at this stage of the season. There’s work going on in the background, leaking stuff to papers.
“All of this just smells like the agent being busy. I’m sure that winds the manager up even though some managers might encourage it.
“Generally, there’s no smoke without fire. I’m not saying I would be surprised if he stayed but when you read stuff like that, the player probably won’t be there at the start of next season.”
Hagi scored six goals during Rangers’ unbeaten Scottish Premiership campaign.
He initially joined the club on loan in January 2020 before the move was made permanent last summer.
