Pundit shares three-word verdict on Newcastle signing Rodon after source update tonight
Joe Rodon is “not good enough” for Newcastle United if they want to stay up this season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Rodon is no better than Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar.
A Tottenham source told Football Insider earlier this month (4 December) the 24-year-old “100 per cent” wants to quit the club next month.
Despite thriving in a back three for Wales, Rodon has not featured under Antonio Conte for Spurs.
A Newcastle source has told Football Insider today that the club are leading the race to sign the defender in January.
Eddie Howe’s side have conceded the joint-most goals (42) in the Premier League this term and are in need of defensive reinforcements.

Asked for his verdict on a Newcastle move for Rodon, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Not good enough.”
He added: “I don’t understand this. If Newcastle are going to bring in anybody they’ve got to be better than what they’ve got.
“Rodon is no better than Schar or Lascelles. They don’t need him.
“They need to go out and buy players who are going to guarantee them survival. They can’t mess around with players like Rodon.”
Rodon has played 20 times for Tottenham since moving from Championship side Swansea City in October 2020, including eight Premier League starts.
The 22-cap international is under contract in north London until the summer of 2025 but has not started a top-flight game this term.
