Pundit slams 'childish' Tottenham as Newcastle set for January transfer block
Frank McAvennie has slammed Tottenham amid speculation that some Premier League clubs will put a transfer block on Newcastle.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the Magpies can steer clear of any recruitment issues in January.
On 10 November, the Telegraph reported some Premier League clubs will refuse to sell to Newcastle in January in a bid to see the newly-rich club relegated.
This could be an issue for the new owners at St James’ Park as the report also claims they will target players with Premier League experience when the window opens.
On 11 November, Football Insider revealed the Toon are already making plans to bring three new players to the club.
McAvennie insists there are easy ways around this issue and speculated Tottenham and Liverpool’s involvement in the matter.

“What a load of nonsense,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Which clubs are pushing this, Tottenham? They were always against it.
“It’s so childish. I’m sure they said the same thing when Man City were taken over and look what happened there.
“Whatever happens, whether it takes five or six years, Newcastle will be challenging.
“They will win trophies, the Tottenhams of the world can’t stop that.
“There are two things, Newcastle could easily just sign players from outside the Premier League.
“Also, if Newcastle are the only club interested in a player, that club will sell.
“Money talks, no one knows that better than Tottenham.”
Newcastle have nine Premier League games to play before the January transfer window opens.
These include games against both Manchester clubs, Arsenal and Leicester.
