Pundit slams 'hopeless' Liverpool after source reveals Salah contract update

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie claims Mo Salah will sign a new Liverpool deal "really soon".

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the attacker's situation.

The Mirror’s David Maddock claimed on October 4th that talks over a renewal are complicated and a Liverpool source has told Football Insider the club want the deal done by the new year.

Salah, 29, has just under two years remaining on contract at Anfield.

The attacker has notched nine goals in nine games this season and scored a spectacular goal against Man City at the weekend.

McAvennie can't believe a deal hasn't already been announced considering Salah's status as "the best player in the world".

"What on earth could be holding that up?" McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"Liverpool need to sort this soon, how can they let this happen? They are hopeless with things like this.

"He's the best in the world at the moment. If I was his agent, I would be looking to get that deal done as soon as possible.

"He wants to be the top earner at Liverpool and that is absolutely fair. I don't think he will ask for anything Liverpool can't do.

"Salah is a magnificent footballer and a talisman for Liverpool. I think a new deal will be announced really soon.

"They aren't going to leave him wondering after the goals he's scored this season."

Liverpool

Liverpool sit one point off the top of the Premier League after the 2-2 draw with Man City.

They face Watford after the international break.
