Pundit suggests Aston Villa trumped Tottenham to seal 'shock' Ings signing
Alan Hutton has suggested Aston Villa beat the likes of Tottenham and other Premier League sides to sign Danny Ings from Southampton.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he was “shocked” when he saw the 29-year-old had joined Dean Smith’s side.
Villa confirmed they had secured Ings’ signing from Southampton last week (August 4th).
The hitman has put pen to paper on a three year deal with the Midlands giants.
Hutton suggested the Villans had beaten other top-flight rivals to seal the deal.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “The best-kept secret in football. Nobody saw it coming.

“I was looking at Instagram and stuff and it was coming up. I was thinking: ‘Somebody’s at it here. That can’t be true.’ Then I’m clicking on it straight onto Sky Sports.
“I genuinely couldn’t believe it. What a signing. I think that’s why I was in shock. A proven goalscorer in the Premier League for a number of years now.
“It just shows you that ambition that Aston Villa have with some of the signings they’re bringing through the door. Me personally, last season, I thought they had a very strong starting XI.
“But a few injuries or maybe a player out of form, that’s when they tended to struggle. They fell away at the end of the season.
“You look at some of the teams round about that are looking for strikers, the likes of Tottenham, teams like that.
“Aston Villa have been able to say: ‘Bang. Here’s the money, we want this experienced player to come in and help us move forward.’ He will.
“It’s about bringing in not only squad players but those that are going to improve the team. He definitely does that.”
