Pundit suggests 'bids' incoming for Rangers star Aribo after 'brilliant' Celtic development

Celtic can still win the Scottish Premiership despite Rangers’ six-point lead and newfound spending power.

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the sale of Nathan Patterson.

Rangers announced Patterson, 20, had joined Everton for a club-record fee on 4 January.

As revealed by Football Insider (4 January), the Toffees have paid an initial £12million, rising to £16million with add-ons to sign the defender.

This has given the Gers the chance to spend and improve their starting XI ahead of the season half of the season.

Despite this spending power and a six-point lead at the top of the table, McAvennie insists the title has not yet been decided.

“I mean, people are talking about the title being decided already,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Really? Give over. It’s only six points. Rangers have shown they are more than capable of dropping those points across a season.

“The honeymoon period under Van Bronckhorst will end at some point, it has to.

“Goldson could still leave this month, maybe there will be bids for Aribo. That will weaken them.

“Rangers are favourites, don’t get me wrong. But if we win the Old Firm in February then it’s only three points and it alls to play for.

“We’ve made some brilliant new signings and that fixes the problem of depth, we now have players to come in and replace the starters.

“Obviously we don’t have 600 midfielders like Rangers but it’s much closer now, it’s certainly not over already.”

Celtic face Rangers at Parkhead on 2 February.

The Gers won the first Old Firm of this season 1-0 back in August.

In other news, Rangers gave been tipped to land a “seriously exciting” signing this month.
