Rangers can win '56' this month as 'seriously exciting signing' expected by pundit

Rangers could win the title this month if they spend the money made from Nathan Patterson’s transfer to Everton.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how the Gers can seal league trophy number 56 in January.

Rangers announced Patterson, 20, had joined Everton for a club-record fee on Tuesday (4 January).

As revealed by Football Insider (4 January), the Toffees have paid an initial £12million, rising to £16million with add-ons to sign the defender.

Following this influx of funds, Kenny claims Rangers can win the title during January if they play their cards right.

“Listen, that’s a lot of money for Rangers,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s a club-record fee, they haven’t seen this much money before.

“You would hope the manager is given the chance to spend some of that. Celtic are spending and Rangers need to as well.

“It’s a six-point gap. If Rangers play their cards right they could win the title in the transfer window.

“Patterson wasn’t playing anyway, so if they bring in a few more players they will be much stronger.

“They already have the advantage on Celtic but a few properly good signings could make the second half of the season pointless.

“They have a good few weeks to spend it but I think we could see a seriously exciting signing at Ibrox this month.”

Rangers face Celtic at Parkhead on 2 February.

The Ger avoided defeat in all of last season’s Old Firm games and won 1-0 against their rivals during the first clash of the current campaign.
