Pundit tells Gerrard to rein in 'cocky' Rangers players after they 'laugh' at Celtic
Kevin Phillips insists Rangers’ first-team squad will be laughing at Celtic’s current predicament.
The Sunderland legend exclusively told Football Insider it’s Steven Gerrard’s job to bring the players back down to earth.
Celtic lost 2-1 to Hearts on the opening day of the season after being dumped out of the Champions League days earlier.
Rangers’ season got off to the best possible start as they hammered Livingston 3-0 at Ibrox.
The Gers are the reigning champions and they are widely expected to retain the trophy with Celtic floundering on the pitch and in the transfer market.
Phillips claims it’s natural for the Rangers’ squad to relish their rival’s poor form but admitted they can’t get too cocky.

“Rangers will have that edge on Celtic,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Gerrard is far too experienced to take notice of that in my opinion.
“The Rangers players are laughing. No doubt about it. Gerrard is too professional to think about anything other than the next game.
“He has to bring those players back down to earth and Celtic is always a tough game.
“It’s far from an ideal start from Celtic’s point of view. From Rangers’ point of view, the fans are loving it.
“Their best asset is Gerrard because he won’t let Rangers get too cocky even though it looks like they may walk away with the title again.”
The Light Blues are next in action on Tuesday as they face Malmo in their first Champions League qualifying clash.
Meanwhile, Celtic face a midweek Europa League playoff clash against Czech side Jablonec.
