Rangers will sell Morelos to appease 'fuming' teammates after Auchenhowie update - pundit

Kevin Phillips claims some senior Rangers stars may have spoken to Steven Gerrard about Alfredo Morelos’ late return to training.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, also claimed the Colombian could be sold for the good of the camp.

Speaking in his pre-Livingston press conference (30 July), Gerrard stated Morelos will return to Auchenhowie next week after his exploits with his country this summer.

Gerrard previously admitted he was “not sure” when Morelos would return when speaking to Sky Sports on 23rd July.

Most of Rangers’ players have been back training for about a month while gearing up for the new season.

Morelos missed the Gers’ opening day win against Livingston and Phillips insists some stars will be fuming with their teammate.

When asked if any members of the Rangers squad will be angry with Morelos, Phillips told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild, “Absolutely, 100%.

“I’ve been there as a player. You get players who will say something and maybe go to the manager. I imagine they are fuming.

“When you’re in a tight-knit dressing room you don’t want anything that could derail things.

“Certainly not this season. They want another championship and the players won’t want anyone upsetting that.

“We know what Morelos is like, he’s a great player and scores loads of goals.

“But from the outside looking in, I think if Rangers have the chance to move him on for the good of the camp, they will do that.

“There will be players in there who aren’t happy. They have been grafting for weeks.

“Now Morelos is swanning back in a few weeks later, it’s not ideal but Gerrard has enough experience to deal with it.”

On 26th June, Football Insider revealed Rangers have told Porto that they want £13million for their star striker this summer.

Morelos scored 17 goals and chipped in with 13 assists in all competitions last season.
