Pundit thrilled by Hojbjerg's behind-the-scenes Tottenham reveal that's 'great to hear'

Paul Robinson is delighted to hear Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is enjoying Antonio Conte’s training methods.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one expects Conte, 52, is working his players hard after their “unacceptable” fitness under Nuno Espirito Santo.

As quoted by Football.London (November 14th), Hojbjerg heaped praise on his new manager’s approach to training and tactics which he described as “very well organised and very well analysed”.

He also made reference to the “intense” nature of Conte’s sessions.

As revealed by Sky Sports (October 17th), there has been significant decline in Tottenham’s running stats since Mauricio Pochettino left the club in November 2019.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Hojbjerg’s comments, Robinson said: “First of all, it’s great to hear the players are taking to him.

“The training under Antonio Conte was always going to be hard.

“To be 20th in the Premier League for distance covered, for a club at that level, is unacceptable.

“It is quite clear to see that Nuno was not getting the best out of the players. They weren’t working hard. Spurs were simply not working hard enough. Compared to other clubs the running stats weren’t good enough.

“Under Conte the minimum requirement is maximum effort. That is certainly something he will be instilling on the training ground.

“Hopefully, it can be seen on the training pitch and on a weekend with him.”
