Pundit: Tottenham could be signing 'perfect' Aurier replacement after Gold update
Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Norwich City defender Max Aarons amid reported interest in his signature from Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds and Middlesbrough striker said the 21-year-old would be a “great signing” for the north London club as he is “the perfect age”.
According to Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold (20 June), Spurs are admirers of the Norwich right-back.
Tottenham currently have three senior right-backs on their books in Serge Aurier, Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga.
As revealed by Football Insider on 11 June, Aurier is edging closer to leaving the club after agreeing personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain.
Whelan believes Norwich’s valuation of Aarons could be a “stumbling block” in a potential deal.

“Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier had disappointing seasons so it is not surprising to hear Spurs are chasing another right-back,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“Matt Doherty in particular was poor. He was a new signing but just didn’t see to fit in. He put in some really bad performances and no one was very impressed with what he did.
“Aurier is a liability. He is very hit and miss and he has not wanted to be there for a while.
“Max Aarons is a great player and a lot of clubs are interested in him. He would be a great signing for Spurs because he is the perfect age. He will only get better.
” At Norwich he showed he can go both ways. He is excellent going forward and Tottenham need a player like that. He would fit the bill, 100 per cent.
“The stumbling block is the price.”
